Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?

Hey folks, Adam Here. We get frequent questions from readers looking for suggestions for models for Space Station Zero. The great thing about miniatures-agnostic games is that you can use any models you want. However, that much choice can sometimes be daunting to people, so we wanted to make a quick list of places to look online (and in your local game store) to find miniatures you’ll like to use in Space Station Zero.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it’s certainly a good jumping-off point. I hope it helps!

Purchased Miniatures

Games Workshop - Your local game store probably carries models by this company, and GW makes tons and tons of wargaming miniatures. We suggest most figures from Warhammer 40,000 and Necromunda (I’m planning on using Van Saar Necromunda models to make a  Medical ship crew myself).

Infinity - The science fiction skirmish game by Corvus Belli has highly detailed models that would work well with much of the illustration in the book, potentially with some alien head swaps. Or, you could just use some of the cool alien-looking models seen in the image at the bottom of this page, called the Morat Aggression Forces Action Pack.

Stargrave - The plastic miniatures made for this game by North Star Military Figures are great for Space Station Zero, and very modular and customizable. Most of the kits have some alien heads included, as well.

Reaper - Generally, Reaper is known for fantasy miniatures, but they do have sci-fi miniatures in their line, as well - whether metal or in their Reaper Bones material. Great for kitbashing, as well.

Wargames Atlantic - Many of these kits are historical (but could be kitbashed to look a bit like the alien lady on the left side of the cover with a clever head swap) but they also have several sci-fi kits as well. I personally want to get the Cannon Fodder box and turn those jump-suited models into a crew from a Shipping vessel (a.k.a. Space Truckers).

Anvil Industry - I like pretty much everything that Anvil Industry does. Their modular resin kits work amazingly well together and are expertly sculpted. They have a bunch of sci-fi models to choose from, but I especially think their Cyberpunk Edgerunner crew would make a cool bunch of space-punk Engineers.

Mantic Games - With Deadzone and Warzone: Firefight, they have many different sci-fi models to choose from, including new figures from the Mazon Labs faction and the Veer-myn ratfolks.

Black Site Studios - Initially known for making terrain (and they have some nice terrain that would work great for Space Station Zero), they’ve also gotten into game design and miniature design. Check out their resin sci-fi models; they have some nice ones that look more like scientists and other non-combat forces.

Zombicide Invader - Made by Cool Mini or Not, this sci-fi version of the Zombicide game comes with lots of miniatures, and many of our readers have mentioned using the heroes and the aliens for their fights in Space Station Zero. If you don’t want the full game, maybe take a look on eBay.

3D Printed Miniatures

MyMiniFactory - In 3D printing there are so many choices, you may find it hard to know where to start looking. However, I’d tell you to start at MyMiniFactory and search for terms like ‘alien’ or ‘sci-fi’ or ‘mutant’ and so on. You’ll discover a treasure trove of models to purchase, download, print, and paint.

OnePageRules - The folks at OPR have been coming out with more and more models every month, and tons of them will work great for Space Station Zero (and for Reign in Hell, as well) and you can either follow their Patreon at $10 a month and get access to tons of new models per month, or search their section on MyMiniFactory and buy the models you want a la carte.

Happy modeling!
