Raising the Dead from Plastic (or Resin or Metal)

For our past games, two of the most common questions we’ve received are:

  • What models should I use?

  • How many models do I need of what types?

The answer to the first question is always primarily - whatever models you like! We are and will always be focused on miniatures-agnostic games because we want you to be able to utilize whatever figures you want. That might be models in your own collection, it might be models that you’ve always wanted an excuse to pick up from an existing game or it might be an excuse to do some kitbashing and let your creativity flow.

We do want to provide some guidance however for those not familiar with all of the incredible models and miniature companies out in the world. To that end, here is a list of models/miniature makers where miniatures could be sourced for Deth Wizards.

  • Knucklebones Miniatures has made a special line of 3D STLs for miniatures specifically for your necromancers. There is one necromancer mini for each Necromantic Legacy.

  • Games Workshop: Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer The Old World as well as the smaller games like Warcry and Warhammer Underworlds all have fantastic options for your Necromancer and your horde.

  • Mantic Games: Mantic’s Kings of War has several undead ranges that will work perfectly for your undead minions and Necromancers

  • Nolzur’s Marvelous Miniatures and Wizkids: Both ranges have a large number of undead that are perfect for your Necromancers and Minions, though originally created for D&D, they are supplied unpainted and can easily fill out your horde.

  • Reaper Miniatures: Reaper both in their main line, Dark Sword and Bones lines have many miniatures that could be used to grow your undead horde.

  • One Page Rules: The excellent OPR creates several ranges of miniatures available as 3D print STLs or printed miniatures that can supply you with unique undead for your horde.

  • My Mini Factory: If you are looking for 3D printable files, there is no better source from producers like Clay Beast Creations and Archvillain Games to smaller independent producers, there are literally thousands of undead to choose from.

  • Myth Forged: Myth Forged makes a wide range of undead miniatures available for purchase

  • Beaver and Broadsword: If you’re looking for slightly different or more unusual undead, Beaver and Broadsword makes a range of undead with a unique aesthetic.

  • Otherworld Miniatures: Otherworld Miniatures makes a nice range of traditionally sculpted metal miniatures for those who like the classic undead aesthetic

  • Diehard Miniatures: Diehard makes a big range of undead miniatures for those looking for the 90s feel to their undead

  • Mierce Miniatures: Mierce is known for their very unique sculpts and specific aesthetic. Their undead range can be great, especially for those Dread Horde Masters who want a very unique but massive horde.

  • Heresy Miniatures: For those looking for unique ghouls, feeders and similar fleshy undead, Heresy miniatures has a wonderful range ready for your fiendish plans.

When it comes to Heroes, most of the ranges above also have options for Warriors, Wizards, Paladins, Priests, Rangers, Rogues and Villagers. Remember, these heroes could be of any species - humans, elves, dwarves or anything else you can imagine could be the heroes opposing your Necromancer’s schemes.

The main question we have often been asked when it comes to antagonists is how many are needed if I play through the whole game. Below is a list of the maximum number of any single Hero that could appear in any individual scenario (including when played in Advanced mode). Remember, the number of individual Heroes generated in any given scenario may be random, so you may never need this maximum number. All numbers are the maximum per player participating.

  • Paladin: 5

  • Priest: 3

  • Ranger: 3

  • Rogue: 3

  • Warrior: 6

  • Wizard: 4

  • Villager: 7+ (One scenario may require more, depending on how fast you kill them).
